What is True?

mala

What is True?

I pull the answer closer with each bead I touch

There is sometimes heaviness in the world

There is also space

Time is immeasurable

Now is all there is

Peace exists in stillness

To quiet the mind is not to silence it

I am true

Light is always here

Life is practice

Love

Everything is bound together

Disconnection exists only in our minds

I am in your heart

The stars are the stories of long ago

Movement awakens

Stillness awakens

The Essence of Stone

essence of stone

In stillness, it breathes

Taking in only what it needs

It allows the wind, the waves, to shape it

Not fighting change, rather greeting it openly

Softness rounds its edges

While it keeps its core strong

Hearing everything with gentleness

No judgement, no anger

Let me be like the essence of stone

Still and breathing

Accepting nourishment and love

Leaning into change

Welcoming it

Softening my rough edges

Not losing who I am

Listening Deeply

Being love

Growing Strength

healing heart

I guide my body
With love and compassion
Through a pain I’m coming to know

Awareness takes away the fear
Warmth brings comfort
Rest brings easement

A wave of pain rises
And I meet it with breath
The body clenches
And I meet it with breath

Creating space and understanding
Allows me to create strength
My body strong, not broken
My body resilient now and brave

Waking refreshed
The pain a dream-like memory
And the fibers of my being changed

Rising

Rising

Up so early again
I rise before the first glimmers of light
I stumble through dreams
To begin my day

The ritual mixes with rhythm
To get me out the door on time
I wait for the train and think,
it’s so early

As the city comes into view
So does the light
Awakening shapes and shadows
That hold countless stories

This cycle continues
A beauty so often unnoticed
The times of transition
Are precocious gems

We close our eyes
To what we don’t wish to see
And in doing so
We often miss life

The light and the dark
Have lessons to share
If only we’d open our eyes
What magic awaits us…

Holding Peace

curtainHolding onto trust
In a broken fractured world
Can take so much strength

Strength is hard to find
In the darkest days and hours
Stillness guides the way

Take seat from the core
Turn deeply inward to see
The eternal light

Ever present glow
Home to trust, strength and knowing
Waiting to be found

Shed away layers
Let them burn up in the fire
Revealing your truth

Open the heart and
Receive the gift of being
Authentically you

Trust comes naturally
When you live from your wisdom
Then you can find peace

* A note about this poem: Haiku found me in a big way this summer and held me together and things around me felt like they were falling apart. Here, I created a longer poem made from haiku stanzas.

She said…

We gathered together on a magical lake. We shared laughter and tears. We shared souls. We lifted each other, we held each other, we gave each other space to lay our burdens down or unpack them bit by bit. We gave and found exactly what we needed.

We were given the gorgeous opportunity to share with each other what we saw of their souls. Here, grouped together in the way that poured forth from me, are some of the words of my magic making sisters.

Poetry growing the light fantastic

This poem and post inspired by Hannah Marcotti in her program Community Grace and the words of some of my lovely soul sisters who I recently retreated with in Maine.

This is also the first in a new feature on the blog, Poetry Growing the Light Fantastic which will be a Sunday Morning Special.
