Green Smoothies

I’ve been doing a lot of playing in the kitchen recently.  I’ve been continuing my smoothie experiment, adding more greens and reducing the fruit and seeing how that goes.  Here’s my most recent favorite:

½ cup coconut water

1 large handful of organic kale

4-5 leaves of organic dandelion greens

1 organic apple

1 organic pear

1 banana

1 tablespoon flax seed

cinnamon to taste

a couple of ice cubes

When I made this one, I tried it without the banana but I felt like it needed something.  The banana smoothed it out a bit, both in texture and in taste.

If you’re looking to make it more of a green juice, you can increase the liquid (water or coconut water).

Dark leafy greens are a great source of calcium, a fact that is often overlooked. The flax seeds give this smoothie a great protein boost, and you’ve got a few servings of fruit in here as well.  Overall, you’re getting a nutritious and filling smoothie all in a matter of minutes!
