Last week I wrote about how I felt like I was hiding from myself and I gave myself the space to do that. Since then, I realized what’s at the core of no longer hiding out. Stop hiding. Write. Meditate. Whatever it takes. Just stop.
Here’s some more to help get you there….
The signs:
You’re getting sucked into hours and hours of television or mindless internet browsing and there’s a feeling tugging at you telling you there’s more you want to be doing
You turn to your computer or phone to look something up and suddenly realize time has passed and you don’t even remember what you were looking for in the first place
You know how you’d like to be spending your time and yet you find that you’re using your time for something else
The symptoms:
You’re tired because you’re staying up later than your body wants (either because you have things to do that you put off or because you’re still sucked into the screen)
You’ve got this edginess and restlessness that you can’t quite put your finger on
You feel frustrated with yourself and know there’s a reason behind you’re choices even though you’re not sure what it is
The solutions:
Pause. Take a break from the electronics and plug back into yourself, whether it’s through writing, meditating, moving your body or relaxing in the bath or shower.
Give your thoughts some space. Notice what’s coming up with compassionate awareness. Release the need to come up with a plan or solution or explanation.
Invite simplicity. Do one thing at a time because you love it, not because you feel obligated or because it has a goal. Step by step. Bit by bit.
Do you feel like you’re hiding from yourself? Release the fear and sit with yourself, write for yourself – let go of goals and outcomes and allow yourself the space to explore.
With Love,
