Major Clutter Clearing Is Important for Family Balance

Family Balance Major clutter cleaning going on around here and it feels so good!

I just started reading the book Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui by Karen Kingston.  I picked it up yesterday on impulse and it turns out it’s exactly what I needed to hear.  It’s a message I’ve heard before, but sometimes we need to hear things multiple times before we can really listen.

We were out of town yesterday visiting family, but I knew that when we got home I needed a few hours in the den/office to dig into this again.  This is a room that ebbs and flows.  I clean, I organize, and the space feels wonderful.  Then, the next thing I know I turn around and it’s a mess again.  How does this happen?

I am determined this time to make the space work for me so I don’t have to keep working to keep the space clean.  I did one of my favorite things for the first time in a while last night – I moved furniture around and it felt awesome.

I was the girl who would rearrange my entire room in the middle of the night when I was younger.  These days, our limited and awkward space makes that more difficult to do, but I found a way to change things up a bit last night.  Even though I’m still sorting through the stuff, I can feel the shift in the space – it feels brighter, more spacious, and more inspiring.

There is something about shifting things, creating space for what you need right now and putting away or getting rid of what doesn’t serve you, that can lead to major changes in how you feel about other parts of your life.

For me, clearing clutter means:

More space for Chloe to explore her creativity

Less time spent cleaning

Reduced stress in our home

Teaching Chloe the importance of creating sacred space

As I work on content for Nourishing Mama: 4 Weeks of Starting with You, I’m adding to what I’ve already taught in workshops and other programs.  It felt fitting to me to have this revelation around clutter (again!) as I finalize the content for the first week, where we talk about Finding Balance Between Self, Family, and Home. Clutter comes up in this discussion, and I’ve been amazed in the past to see the shifts that come for women when we delve into this work.

How is clutter negatively impacting your life?

Are you ready for that to change?

If you’re ready to make a commitment to yourself and your family, register here for Nourishing Mama: 4 Weeks of Starting with You, and by FRIDAY you will be feeling the shifts around the clutter in your home already.

If this is scary to you, if you feel like you’re not quite ready, I say GO FOR IT!  Why?  Fear often comes up for us at the moment where we most need the shift to occur.  Breathe into it and give yourself this gift.
