Rooted in Ritual

cyclesWe often come into the new year trying to let go of whatever did not feel right from the year before, and we sometimes start off by setting lofty goals and intentions. I joked in a yoga class the other day that we sometimes act as if we expect we can accomplish these goals by January 2nd and when we don’t, we start doubting ourselves.

What if this year could be different?

What if you could really root yourself in your intentions? What if you could begin to journey towards them with mindfulness, with love, with self-compassion?

I believe one of the most powerful ways you can do this is through ritual. Ritual does not need to be some big elaborate thing. For me, I ground myself each day in ritual as a way to begin because it feels like safe and sacred space, it feels like home. One of my intentions for this year is to begin creating evening rituals as well, given myself a soft cushion to help ease me into sleep.

The cycles around us offer us opportunity for ritual.

The new calendar year gives us the chance for release, celebration, and a fresh start.

The new moon gives us the opportunity to dream, to quiet our minds and really listen to our hearts.

The full moon gives us the space to release what is no longer serving us so we can create space for all that is yet to come, whether we are expecting it or not.

Depth is the word that is guiding me this year, and I have chosen to begin the year by building a solid foundation, by deepening my roots and allowing myself to feel grounded as I take the next steps on my path.

If you are looking for ways to deepen your roots at the start of this new calendar cycle, that is where we are beginning with the Sacred Becoming Practices. Each month starting on the new moon you will receive 10 days of prompts from me, guiding you towards your sacred becoming. We begin the year Rooted in Ritual. I hope you’ll join us.
